QE recently hosted a heartwarming Community Christmas event, bringing festive cheer to older residents of Darlington. Organised by the college’s Event Planning students and supported by local councillors Matthew Snedker and Bryony Holroyd , the celebration offered a joyful afternoon filled with entertainment, a light lunch, and a beautiful carol service delivered by Trinity Church. Each guest was also given a small Christmas gift to take home, spreading a little extra warmth and kindness this holiday season.
The event provided a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with their local community, ensuring older people felt valued and included during this special time of year. The combination of thoughtful planning and festive spirit created a welcoming atmosphere, where laughter and smiles were in abundance. From live entertainment to the heartfelt carol service, every aspect of the day was designed to bring comfort, joy, and a sense of togetherness.
Ruben Putt, one of the students involved, reflected on the experience, saying: “It’s lovely to get involved with our community. We all should spend more time looking out for people.” Ruben’s words capture the true spirit of the event, bringing people together and reminding us of the importance of care and connection.
The Community Christmas not only brought happiness to the guests but also allowed the develop key skills in organisation, teamwork, and empathy. The event demonstrated the power of simple acts of kindness and the impact they can have on people’s lives, particularly during the festive season.
Our Community Christmas event was a shining example of how young people can make a meaningful difference. It showcased the college’s dedication to community engagement and emphasised the importance of ensuring everyone feels part of the celebrations during the holidays.
