Overview

Mowden Infant and Junior Schools are proud to serve the local community as a nurturing, ambitious, and inclusive learning environment. In March 2025, we joined the Northern Arch Learning Partnership, a partnership where our collective vision is to build a learning community that shapes young people’s development into happy, productive, and independent adults.

Situated in the west end of Darlington, in the heart of Mowden, we cater for children aged 4 to 11 years and welcome pupils from the local community as well as from the wider town and surrounding villages.

At Mowden, every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to achieve their full potential. We believe deeply in our children’s ideas, aspirations, and capabilities, and we strive to create an environment where pupils can aim high, discover new interests, and grow into confident, responsible young people. Belonging is central to everything we do: families and children are welcomed warmly, treated with respect, and encouraged to take pride in being part of the Mowden community.

Our site provides exceptional facilities for learning and play. We offer spacious halls, two libraries, ICT suites, and bright, well‑equipped classrooms that support high‑quality teaching and a vibrant curriculum. Outdoors, we benefit from extensive playgrounds and a large shared field that connects our two buildings. Our wooded area beside the Infant School offers children opportunities for exploration and hands‑on learning, while our bespoke trim‑trail equipment encourages physical development and active play.

Our dedicated staff team works together to inspire, challenge, and support every child. Every day, our pupils impress us with their enthusiasm, kindness, and determination. They achieve highly and contribute positively to both school life and the wider community. By the time children leave Mowden, they have developed strong academic foundations, confidence, resilience, and a genuine love of learning that prepares them for future success.
