Hurworth School’s Year 10 Futsal team became the third team from the school to reach the County Cup Final this season—an extraordinary achievement that underlines the strength and consistency of the school’s PE department.
Having already knocked out last year’s champions in the opening round and defeating a strong Durham Johnston side on route to the final, the Year 10 team arrived at the Stadium of Light full of confidence. Their opponents, Jarrow School from South Tyneside, provided a tough challenge, and the game began with tense moments at both ends.
However, Hurworth’s quality soon began to show. By half-time, they had taken control with a commanding 3–0 lead. Jarrow fought back in the second half, but Hurworth managed the game with maturity and skill, eventually sealing an emphatic 5–1 victory to be crowned County Champions.
Special recognition goes to O. Mann, who stepped up to join the squad at the last minute and delivered an outstanding performance. A huge well done also goes to J. Reed, whose string of brilliant saves once again proved crucial in keeping Hurworth ahead.
This latest triumph cements Hurworth’s place in the history books, as the school is now the most successful in Durham County Schools FA Futsal history—lifting the trophy seven times and finishing runners-up on six occasions. This is a remarkable accomplishment, especially given the high level of competition, often against larger schools and those with professional football academy links.
Hurworth School and Northern Arch Learning Partnership are immensely proud of its players and staff for their hard work, teamwork, and determination. Their success is a testament to the school’s commitment to excellence, both on and off the pitch.
